Am I a candidate for laser vein treatment?

Our laser features a unique design that allows treatment of clients of all skin tones.

What areas can be treated?

We can remove unsightly veins from all parts of the body. Small, facial veins (or telangiectasia) can be treated quickly without bruising. Spider veins and large blue leg veins can also be treated with excellent results. Knotty varicose veins are not good candidates. During your consultation, Dr. Desai will help you determine which vessels can be treated and the best course of treatment.

What about blood blisters and port wine stains?

Blood blisters (or hemangiomas) respond very well to our CoolGlide Vein Therapy, usually with just one treatment. Clients with port wine stains and other vascular lesions who had given up on finding a solution have been pleasantly surprised by the success of their CoolGlide vascular treatments.

How does it work and will it hurt?

The Cutera CoolGlide laser delivers pulses of light energy which causes the blood within the vein to coagulate, eventually destroying the vessel which is later reabsorbed by your body. Blood flow will then be redirected to veins deeper below your skin’s surface, where it should be. Most clients experience a stinging sensation as the pulse of the energy is delivered from the laser. Although, no local anesthesia or pain medication is typically required, some clients opt to use a topical anesthetic prior to treatment. Following treatment, the pain is minimal to nonexistent.

How does this compare to Sclerotherapy?

During your consultation, Dr. Desai will advise you on the best course of action, but many physicians and clients prefer the CoolGlide Vein Therapy because there are no painful injections.

How many treatments will I need?

Typically clients find that 1 or 2 treatments are sufficient. However, the number of treatments necessary depends on the number, color and size of the vessels being treated. During your consultation, Dr. Desai will advise you on the number of treatments based upon on your personal needs.

How should I prepare for my treatment?

The treatment area should be absolutely clean of any deodorants, lotions, makeup, sun block, or any other chemicals or skincare products. If you have had a history of herpes simplex virus and are scheduled for a facial vein treatment, prophylactic antiviral therapy may be prescribed. The intended treatment area should not be exposed to sunlight or tanning booth light for 14 days prior to treatment.

Are there any restrictions post-treatment?

Following the treatment, you may return to your normal activities. In the first few days after treatment, don’t scrub or rinse the treated areas with abrasive skin cleansers. Avoid vigorous activities such as strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours after treatment. Sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) is recommended on any treated areas that will be exposed to the sun.

What are the possible side effects?

Although most clients experience few side effects, the most commonly noticed are slight reddening and local swelling of the treated areas. These effects typically last for less than 24 hours. Some clients may experience bruising, and in rare instances, blistering may occur. Permanent side effects are rare.

When will I start seeing results?

After treatment, most clients find that the majority of the treated veins have shown significant improvement within two to six weeks of treatment. However, your final results may not be apparent for several months.
