Aging Through the ’30s
Congratulations, you made it through your 20’s, hopefully without too many scrapes. I’m going to assume you did all the things you were supposed to do in your 20’s which means you’re on an amazing skincare routine that you are faithfully using every single day. This skin care regimen may need to be changed to add growth factors if you have not already incorporated them. Also whatever you do, don’t stop the Retinol. If you have some catching up to do, don’t worry here’s the link:
That hangover from your Dirty 30 celebrations came with a few other perks of aging as well. We know that our body’s ability to produce collagen and elasticity significantly decreases at 30. This is why most doctors recommend starting Botulinum Toxin at 30. The goal is to prevent the wrinkles from coming in the first place. I know a lot of people might have reservations about this as they don’t want the “frozen” look. I am here to tell you that you do not need to be frozen at 30 to prevent wrinkles. There are 4 toxins on the market, they all have different properties and can be tweaked to give you a natural look if that’s more your style.
The decrease in collagen production that starts at 30 will be seen in your mid to late 30’s. This is a good time to add those growth factors to your skincare and start adding some sort of medical-grade procedure a couple of times a year. If you never want to do a face-lift in your life, this is the time to start preventing that loss of collagen. Personally I alternate between Cutera Excel V Laser Genesis and Micro-Needling during any season, while throwing in two medical-grade chemical peels in the mix during the cooler weather months. As long as it’s once a quarter or every other month it’s more than enough to keep that skin looking gorgeous.
For some of you, 30’s come with pregnancies and we love our babies but man they do a number on the skin and body. This is a time to make sure you’re protecting against melasma and those pesky hormone acne breakouts. Kids also change our body in ways that are not easy to reverse. If you’re holding on to that little post-baby bump, there are plenty of body contouring options to get your pre-baby body back.
Still, have those fresh new stretch marks? Don’t worry, micro-needling treatments like Secret RF can help reduce the appearance with an added bonus of turning over collagen. What else can I do for my body in my 30s? A year after baby, fit in a series of vaginal rejuvenation treatments that are not painful and only have 3 days of downtime because no one should have to cross their legs just to cough. That should be part of every push present.
The 30’s also bring a loss of volume in the face, and weight gain everywhere else. Studies have shown that by 35 we have lost about 10% of the volume in our face and we continue to lose 5-10% every 5 years after that. For some of my patients that are very physically active, that weight loss in the face comes faster. You will be surprised at how much difference a subtle, well-placed filler can make. No one needs to have the Hollywood look unless they want it, but remember one syringe of filler is 1 ml. Fillers will keep the structure of your face lifted and youthful. It can also be an option if you wanting a more angled or a defined cheeks/jawline. Let’s face it, who doesn’t also want a perfect pout.
While 30’s come with a lot of life changes from jobs, to starting families, and finally getting to travel more, the good thing is you don’t have to waste too much time or money into the anti-aging process this decade. Save it for the ones to come.
