Are Exosome Treatments for Hair Loss Different From PRP?

Although hair loss is something that many people don’t wish to deal with, unfortunately, for some people, it's unavoidable. Whether due to genetics, a medical condition or medication, or the natural aging process, many Sugar Land and Addison, TX men and women face hair loss or hair thinning at some point in their life.

Thanks to modern technology, however, there are various treatment options to help slow down, prevent, and even reverse hair loss. Board-certified physicians Dr. Dhara Patel and Dr. Nina Desai offer effective hair restoration treatments at Renew Laser & Skin. The treatments can include Exosome or PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy.

What is PRP therapy?

PRP for hair loss is a cutting-edge hair restoration treatment that uses an individual’s own blood to encourage collagen growth and restore hair follicles, and prevent hair loss and thinning in the future. Taking a small amount of blood from the arm, Dr. Patel or Dr. Desai will then separate the growth factors and inject them into the areas of the scalp that are balding or thinning. Over time, this serum will produce visible results in our Addison and Sugar Land, TX patients.

Many people like PRP therapy because it uses their own blood, so there is less chance of risk involved. The treatment takes around 30 minutes and requires very little downtime. Multiple treatments may be needed; however, our patients generally feel the results are worth it!

What is Exosome therapy?

At Renew Laser & Skin, Exosome is very similar to PRP therapy. In fact, it uses the same concept of using growth factors to produce collagen growth that PRP uses. The main difference, however, is that these growth factors are not derived from a patient’s own blood; they are lab derived. The serum, which includes growth factors, messenger RNA, micro RNA, and cytokines contains a higher concentration of growth factors and proves very successful for many Sugar Land and Addison, TX patients. Additionally, because Exosomes are lab derived, it does not have debris of unnecessary ingredients in the serum that patient-extracted PRP serums will have. With these unnecessary ingredients, the body has to clear them. For this reason, many consider Exosome therapy to be one step above PRP therapy as it can provide more effective results.

As with PRP therapy, there is not much downtime necessary for this procedure, which makes it a great choice for many men and women.
